Love Lies (2024)

‘When my love swears that she is made of truth / I do believe her, though I know she lies.’ – says Shakespeare. Widowed for years, reclusive obstetrician Yu meets Joe, who is disguised as a middle-aged French petroleum engineer on a dating app. When her virtual romance is revealed to be an online scam, Yu insists that she is in love despite being swindled out of a huge sum of money. Ho Miu-ki, in her directorial debut, reflects on what ‘true love’ really means by way of a romantic comedy – love, once believed, is real.
